Sheila Tyson has represented District 2 on the Jefferson County Commission since winning the seat in November 2018, and she was reelected in 20229. She previously served on the Birmingham City Council for District 6 and worked as a bookkeeper after studying business accounting in the U.S. Army Quartermaster School12. She is unopposed on the November 3, 2026 ballot34.

- Seconded the motion on Resolution 2021-929 adopting the commission's new district map and voted for it; it was approved 4 to 1 on November 4, 20215. In September 2025 a federal district judge ruled that the 2021 plan violated the Fourteenth Amendment's protection against racial gerrymandering6. The county, which contends the districts were not drawn because of race, appealed7, and on October 16, 2025 a divided 11th Circuit panel stayed the injunction, leaving the 2021 map in place while the appeal proceeds8.
