Mike Caruso is a certified public accountant from Delray Beach and a former Republican member of the Florida House, representing District 89 and later District 873. Gov. Ron DeSantis appointed him Palm Beach County Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller in 2025 after Joe Abruzzo became county administrator3. On Aug. 18, 2026 the governor issued Executive Order 26-170, which states: "Michael Allen Caruso is hereby suspended from the public office that he now holds, to wit: Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller for Palm Beach County, Florida." The order took effect immediately and runs until a further executive order is issued, or as otherwise provided by law2. An executive suspension is not a court ruling. He remains listed as a qualified candidate for the Nov. 3, 2026 ballot1.
