Joe Knight has represented District 4 on the Jefferson County Commission since 2010 and serves as president pro tempore and finance chair12. A Trussville attorney in private practice for more than 30 years, he worked for a decade as a certified registered nurse anesthetist before earning his law degree from the Birmingham School of Law in 199012. He is unopposed on the November 3, 2026 ballot3.

  • Sponsored Resolution 2021-929 adopting the commission's new district map and voted for it; it was approved 4 to 1 on November 4, 20214. In September 2025 a federal district judge ruled that the 2021 plan violated the Fourteenth Amendment's protection against racial gerrymandering5. The county, which contends the districts were not drawn because of race, appealed6, and on October 16, 2025 a divided 11th Circuit panel stayed the injunction, leaving the 2021 map in place while the appeal proceeds7.
