Alex Salgado has been judge of Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 1 since January 1, 2019, after defeating the Republican incumbent in 2018; he was re-elected in 20221. According to Salgado, he and the other misdemeanor judges elected in 2018 settled the federal lawsuit over the county's misdemeanor bail practices and put a new bail system in place, and later started the Bayou City Community Court2. He is running for re-election against Republican Erin Swanson1.
